چکیده
Welshimer, H. J. (Medical College of Virginia, Richmond). Vitamin requirements of Listeria monocytogenes. J. Bacteriol. 85:1156-1159. 1963.-Semidefined and completely defined media were used to determine the growth response of Listeria monocytogenes to several vitamins. All strains tested failed to grow for more than one or two passages in the absence of any one of the following vitamins: riboflavine, biotin, thiamine, and thioctic acid. The thioctic acid requirement and the antagonistic effect of its analogue, 8-methylthioctic acid, could be modified by altering the thiamine concentration.

The role of dietary vitamin E in experimental Listeria monocytogenes infections in turkeys.
The current study was designed to determine if dietary vitamin E influenced either the gut clearance or levels of peripheral blood CD4+ and CD8+ T lymphocytes in adult turkeys experimentally infected with Listeria monocytogenes. Turkeys were fed vitamin E (0, 100, or 200 IU) from day of hatch to time of necropsy. After 6 wk on the experimental diet, turkeys were orally inoculated with L. monocy...

PURPOSE Consuming even low numbers of the foodborne pathogen, Listeria monocytogenes, places the elderly at risk for severe illness. The impact of immunomodulation on the development of listerial infection within a young and aged population after low dose challenge with L. monocytogenes was investigated. METHODS Animals received daily supplementation of vitamin E for a period of 21 days to pr...
متن کاملEffect of Vitamin A on Listeria monocytogenes Infection in a Silkworm Model
Insect infection models have been used increasingly to study various pathogenic agents in evaluations of pathogenicity and drug efficacy. In this study, we demonstrated that larvae of the silkworm Bombyx mori are useful for studying Listeria monocytogenes infections in insects. Infection with the L. monocytogenes wild-type strain induced silkworm death. Infection by a listeriolysin O (LLO) dele...
متن کاملCombination of Zinc and All-Trans Retinoic Acid Promotes Protection against Listeria monocytogenes Infection
Zinc (Zn) is the second most abundant transition metal after iron. It plays a vital role in living organisms and affects multiple aspects of the immune system. All-trans retinoic acid (atRA) is an isomeric form of the vitamin A or retinol. It possesses the greatest biological activity of Vitamin A. Vitamin A and related retinoids influence many aspects of immunity. In this study, we demonstrate...
متن کاملA defined, glucose-limited mineral medium for the cultivation of Listeria spp.
Members of the genus Listeria are fastidious bacteria with respect to their nutritional requirements, and several minimal media described in the literature fail to support growth of all Listeria spp. Furthermore, strict limitation by a single nutrient, e.g., the carbon source, has not been demonstrated for any of the published minimal media. This is an important prerequisite for defined studies...
